GreenHer Centre of Excellence is proud to announce that it has become the first institution featured on UNESCO’s Global Platform for Remote Scientific Infrastructure and Needs Map, developed under UNESCO’s Remote Access to Lab Equipment (UNESRALE) Initiative. This milestone marks an important step in strengthening the visibility of GreenHer’s research infrastructure within the global scientific community and advancing international cooperation in heritage science, sustainability, and research accessibility.
The newly launched UNESCO Remote Access to Lab Equipment (UNESRALE) Initiative was established to expand equitable access to advanced scientific infrastructure by enabling researchers, particularly those in under-resourced regions, to remotely access sophisticated laboratory equipment, computational resources, and specialized research facilities. By reducing barriers to scientific participation, the initiative contributes to a more inclusive and interconnected global research ecosystem increasing the visibility of research facilities and expertise through UNESCO’s global mapping activities and developing mechanisms to widen access to scientific infrastructures including GreenHer CoE.
In a communication to GreenHer, UNESCO confirmed that the Centre is the first entry displayed on the public UNESRALE map, acknowledging GreenHer’s contribution to the development and official launch of the platform. UNESCO also expressed appreciation for GreenHer’s valuable input that helped bring the initiative to its public release.
Responding to the announcement, GreenHer expressed its gratitude to UNESCO and emphasized its commitment to supporting the initiative through its communication channels, professional networks, and partner institutions. The Centre highlighted the importance of promoting broader engagement from the heritage science and research infrastructure communities and reaffirmed its dedication to fostering international scientific collaboration.
GreenHer also welcomed ongoing discussions with UNESCO regarding the preparation of a Letter of Intent that could serve as a foundation for other future joint activities, including the development of a potential UNESCO-GreenHer Joint Access Call. Such initiatives aim to expand access to research infrastructures, encourage knowledge exchange, and support collaborative research addressing challenges in heritage, environmental, and sustainability sciences.
This recognition reflects GreenHer’s growing international role in advancing Green Heritage Science and aligns closely with UNESCO’s vision of making scientific infrastructure, expertise, and opportunities accessible to researchers worldwide. By joining the UNESRALE platform, GreenHer contributes to global efforts to build a more equitable, connected, and sustainable scientific landscape.
