GreenHer College

Knowledge for a sustainable future of cultural heritage

GreenHer College is the education and engagement platform of the Centre of Excellence for Green Heritage Science. It gives researchers, professionals, students, institutions and businesses access to current interdisciplinary knowledge for understanding, caring for and sustainably using cultural heritage.

The College connects scientific excellence with professional practice. Its programmes draw on new research, advanced infrastructure and the experience of Slovenian and international partners. Particular attention is given to green conservation and restoration, sustainable buildings, sites and cultural landscapes, digital methods, climate resilience and community participation.

Our learning pathways

The programme is organised around four connected areas. Learners may join an individual course or progressively build a broader portfolio of competences.

Staff development

For GreenHer researchers, professional and technical staff, and research leaders

Internal training strengthens the Centre’s research excellence and shared working culture. The programme covers new analytical, digital and conservation techniques, research infrastructure, open science, research data management, ethics, project management, and interdisciplinary collaboration across the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences and engineering.

  • hands-on training in new methods and equipment
  • development of competitive national and European project proposals
  • research, leadership and transferable skills
  • mobility, mentoring and knowledge exchange with CNR, UCL and other partners

Continuing professional development

For conservators-restorers, curators, architects, engineers, archaeologists, heritage managers, companies and public institutions

Programmes for external professionals translate current research into everyday practice. They focus on sustainable heritage care, preventive conservation, advanced material characterisation, condition monitoring, digital documentation, risk assessment and climate adaptation.

  • advanced conservation and restoration techniques
  • non-destructive and minimally invasive investigation
  • sustainable materials and processes
  • management of buildings, sites, collections and cultural landscapes
  • tailored training for institutions, companies and professional associations

Summer schools

For doctoral and master’s students, early-career researchers and emerging professionals

International summer schools combine lectures, laboratory sessions, fieldwork and real heritage challenges. Participants work in interdisciplinary teams, use GreenHer research infrastructure and build connections with leading researchers and practitioners.

  • intensive project- and problem-based learning
  • work on real cases and in living laboratories
  • integration of scientific, technical, social-science and humanities approaches
  • international networking and development of new research ideas

Microcredentials

For employees, professionals and other learners seeking focused and flexible education

Microcredentials provide verified, clearly defined competences through short learning units. Each microcredential will be based on explicit learning outcomes, an appropriate workload, transparent assessment and quality assurance. Programmes will support continuing professional development and, where appropriate, allow learners to combine shorter units into broader learning pathways.

  • flexible face-to-face, online or blended delivery
  • content co-developed with research, heritage and industry partners
  • assessment of practical and professional competences
  • opportunities to stack short units into advanced learning pathways

Micro-credentials enable the acquisition of new competencies within a relatively short period of time.

How learning is delivered

Learning will be delivered through hands-on workshops, seminars, intensive schools, online content, mentoring, study visits and workplace-based training. Activities will use laboratories, mobile research equipment, the Open Conservation Lab, living laboratories and real cases from heritage practice. Training activities are carried out in collaboration with GreenHer–UNESRALE OpenLabs (Global platform for remote scientific infrastructure and needs).

Who the College is for

GreenHer College welcomes researchers and students, conservators-restorers, museum, gallery, library and archive professionals, architects, engineers, archaeologists, heritage and tourism managers, companies, public institutions, professional associations and policymakers.
